Skinny Shaming Is A Real Thing

Let's get real today, many people seem to think that skinny shaming is acceptable. Suggesting certain women really need to get a pizza or a burger and eat the whole thing it is an unacceptable joke. People only hear about fat shaming but skinny shaming is a real problem too.

Body shaming
NounThe action or practice of humiliating someone by making mocking or critical comments about their body shape or size.

Don't get me wrong, I have had positive comments like I can pull of anything because I am skinny, that I could be a model and I have had girls tell me that they would kill to have my body however I have been asked how sad it is not having a big ass, I have been told that the wind will blow me away and that men do not want bones, they want curves (especially from the African community). Bones, too skinny, toothpick are just a few of the names I've been called over the years. Instead of being greeted with a typical "Hey, how are you" you often hear "you are…

Current Read: African Women In Europe

This book is a celebration of the empowered African women living, working and running a business in Europe. It is written by African women to share their stories and teachings with the whole world. One of my friends got the opportunity to share her story, and to support her I bought the book. Let me just say I am glad I did because this book is everything, it is a fact. Everyone needs this book, not just African women in Europe but anyone from any country around the whole world. Most of us have a go-to bag, a go-to pair of shoes or even a go-to song, personally I think this book should be a go-to book.

The one thing all the writers of this book describe is the hardship of being able to "make it" in life or in this case in Europe and it takes a lot of growing and self awareness to overcome the fears and the feeling of not belonging to allow yourself to fly. "There is nothing that is impossible and nothing is beyond our potential. The only thing that prevents us from achieving our desired goals is our attitude, our behaviour and our mindset. If we put these three aspects in place we will be able to achieve anything..."  This passage on page 108 might be something you needed to hear to allow yourself to fly.

African Women In Europe is more than just a book, it is more of a peep talk we all need in any situation we face in every stage of our lives. Many times while reading, I found myself thinking "I really needed this"or "definitely, this makes me tick". Becoming more self aware is one of the healthiest things you can possibly do for yourself and this book is a really good starting point. The AWE book will help putting you more in touch with yourself and the world around you. It is a winner, go get your copy (click here).
